CLASS 2   

February 2024

This month Class 2 have started to explore the topics 'Transport' and 'On My street.' We have enjoyed exploring airplanes, boats, cars and had lots of fun dressing up as firemen!

We have engaged our senses taking part in sensology, cookery and messy play activities based on Chinese New Year, Pancake Tuesday and Valentine's Day! It has been a very busy month!

January 2024

Class 2 have settled back into school after a very busy Christmas! We explored fireworks for the New Year and spent time exploring Winter - we even got to explore some real snow outside! 

Class 2 have been taking part in new activities and have really enjoyed getting to the hall for our PE circuit and stop and go games. 

We are continuing to work really hard and make sure we have a lot of fun along the way!

December 2023 

Happy Christmas from Class 2! This month we have been taking part in many festive activities - decorating Christmas trees, making gingerbread men and exploring lots of Christmas theme sensory play!

A highlight from the month was our Junior school Christmas show - Class 2 made the most wonderful 5 little snowmen!

Class 2 November 2023

This month Class 2 have been very busy exploring Nursery Rhyme week and Fairytales. We decorated food for Grandma's basket, used bricks to build a castle and made carriages for Cinderella in art. 

Class 2 have really loved music therapy this month - the trumpet was a huge hit!

 

Class 2 October 2023

This month we have loved exploring Autumn, especially through exploration of leaves in the sensory garden. We had lots of fun during Numeracy Week where we focused on Transport and joined our friends from other classes to finish off the week playing together!

We have had lots of fun exploring Halloween and just loved exploring pumpkins and ghosts during sensology!

We are excited for mid term break! 

Class 2 September 2023

Class 2 have had a great September. We have focused on developing our new routines, getting to know new staff and peers and most importantly having lots of fun! This month we explored our name, birthdays, our bodies and our senses. 

We are excited for a fun filled year!

June Update 2023 

Class 2 have had an amazing June - we have had lots of fun activities including lots of water play in the sunshine, our very first Colour Fun and we topped off the year with a great trip to the beach! 

Class 2 have experienced so many successes this year and we are so proud of every pupil!

May Update 2023

We have had alot of fun during the month of May. We dived ino our topic 'Nursery Rhymes' and really enjoyed exploring nursery rhymes about animals, about water and loved pushing Humpty Dumpty off the wall in Attention Autism! 

We had a celebration day for the King's Coronation and even met the King and Queen of Donard! Class 2 just loved the music and dancing at the celebration disco. 

The weather has started to brighten so we have spent alot of time outdoors - finding bugs in the sensory garden, using binoculars to see birds and also using chalk to draw around each other in the playground. We can't believe that it is June next month!

April Update 2023

Class 2 have returned after a lovely Easter break and we are enjoying the change in the weather. We have spent alot of time outside in the sensory garden, using binoculars to look for birds and magnifying glasses to search for Minibeasts. We found a few ladybugs and were very excited!

We are excited to start our new topic Nursery Rhymes - come back next month to see what we get up to!

March Update 2023

We have had a very busy March in Class 2! We started off by celebrating World Book Day with a parade and a music session with Live Music. Class 2 loved the instruments and signing in the microphone. 

We all worked very hard to make our mums lovely White Chocolate Pebbles for Mother's Day! 

We started our work on Easter and had lots of fun with Junior School at our High 5 Friday Big Play.

February 2023

Throughout February Class 2 have explored the topic 'Food.' We had lots of fun flipping, decorating and eating Pancakes on Pancake Tuesday, we tried new flavours and textures exploring Chinese New Year and of course we had lots of chocolate when exploring Valentine's Day!

At the end of February we dressed up as our favourite characters and took part in a parade for World Book Day! 

January 2023

This January Class 2 have focused on 'Winter.' We have explored snowmen, Winter clothing and Winter animals. We had a great time exploring real snow and even had a snowball fight in class! We enjoyed playing with another class in our High 5 Friday Winter big play session in the hall. 

We have also started our 'food' topic starting with Chinese New Year. We tried new foods and gave them a thumbs up or thumbs down and has lots of fun exploring noodles and using chopsticks during play!

December 2022

Throughout December Class 2 had alot of fun exploring Christmas. We dressed up in our Christmas jumpers, decorated trees and explored lots of Christmas themed sensory play. 

The whole class really enjoyed our special sensory bus and soft play bus treat followed by a McDonalds lunch!

November 2022

Throughout November we spent our time exploring our topic 'People who help us.' 

We had a visit from the optician and dentist and enjoyed pretending we were at the hairdressers through Attention Autism sessions. 

We have really enjoyed dressing up and getting into character when exploring the fire and police service and we made some excellent creations during our time exploring builders! Our role play room was transformed into Tesco's so we got to practice putting food into our baskets and paying for it at the checkout!

Class 2 also really enjoyed Nursery Rhyme week, especially when we finished the week with a Messy Play session!

October 2022

Class 2 have had a lovely October. We explored Autumn and Harvest through many play activities and cookery lessons. 

We really enjoyed our first High 5 Friday - we made buns for another class, spent extra time outside and enjoyed a Big Play session in the assembly hall!

Halloween was alot of fun in class 2 - we created lots of Halloween crafts and got into character in our 'Wizards Workshop' turning staff and pupils into frogs!

September 2022

This month Class 2 have been focusing on settling into school and spending alot of time getting to know our new friends and staff!

We have been focusing on the topic 'All About Me,' exploring our birthdays, our bodies, our senses and our families. 

We had great fun when the Sensory Dome came to Donard School and we have also been focusing on our Wellbeing in class, spending alot of time completing relaxing activities and activities that we enjoy!

Class 2 April Update

Class 2 have just loved our April activities - we have had loads to explore! 

This month we took part in a whole school Showstopper ever and our theme was 'Flying High.' We created hot air balloons, clouds and decorated our own kites. We loved exploring each classes table and tasting all the yummy treats. 

Easter was alot of fun in Class2 - we decorated eggs, made Easter bunny buns and went on our very own Easter egg hunt. We all found chocolate eggs and enjoyed them as a nice treat to finish off Term2! 

After Easter break we focused on Spring and when it was sunny we took our classroom outside! We are very excited to start exploring 'On the Farm' for term 3.

Class 2 March Update

As you can see Class 2 had a VERY BUSY March. We kicked off March by exploring all things Pancakes for Pancake Tuesday - decorating pancakes, flipping pancakes and of course, eating pancakes!! We also really enjoyed our Superhero theme Literacy Week and finished it off by dressing up for World Book Day. 

We finished our 'Move Move Move' topic by exploring emergency vehicles, we listened to the sounds they make, explored who worked in each vehicle and even had to put out our own fire in the playground! We made super Firemen and Firewomen!

We spent a couple of days in the Sensory Garden exploring tree bark, going on bug hunts and building nests for birds.

Class 2 February Update

This month Class 2 worked hard on our topic 'Move Move Move.' We loved exploring trains, cars, bikes, boats and planes! We also had classes with Rachel our school OT and have been working hard on our Fine Motor Skills. 

We all enjoyed 'Sharing the Love' in Class 2 for Valentine's Day. We created yummy oreo biscuits for our families, decorated hearts in art and went on a chocolate hunt in Attention Autism! 

Class 2 January Update

This month Class 2 have had a brilliant time exploring Winter. We have enjoyed building igloos, designing hats and scarves and serving drinks in our Hot Chocolate Cafe. 
At the beginning of the month we had Well-being Week which was lots of fun. We had foot spas, created amazing art by doing blow painting and tried out some yoga poses!

Class 2 December Update

This month Class 2 have had a brilliant time exploring Christmas! We have enjoyed making Christmas artwork, especially creating salt dough decorations for the tree!

We have had a special visitor this month - an elf from Santa! He has brought us lovely treats and playing tricks in our classroom!

Class 2 November Update 

This month we have been busy exploring Autumn and our topic of celebrations. We really enjoyed getting outside and exploring the Autumn leaves in the sensory garden. We even took some back to class to create some lovely Autumn artwork! 
We have been exploring money in Numeracy and have found coins in sand, went on a money hunt in the playground and now we are learning to use money to pay for items in a shop! 
It has been a very busy and happy November in Class 2!

Class 2 Update - January 2020

We have settled well back into school after being off for Christmas. We have enjoyed learning all about winter. From clothes and weather to colours and animals. We have experimented with how warm water melts ice, using droppers and especially enjoyed releasing the winter animals. We have created lots of beautiful winter art and loved making footprint penguins.

We are starting our topic on books and look forward to experiencing sensory stories and listening to Julia Donaldson’s tales.

Class 2 Update - November 2019

We have been working hard in class 2 and have been enjoying learning through lots of multisensory activities. We are finishing our topic of ‘My Senses’ and will be enjoying Christmas themed activities soon.

Class 2 Update - September 2019

We have been settling into our new class and we’re doing so well getting used to our new routines. We’ve loved being creative during art and exploring various mark making tools. Both on the page and on ourselves!

We’ve just stated to dip into our new topic ‘5 senses’ and we’re loving new experiences related to touch.

Class 2 have had a wonderful year. Each and every one of us has made some great progress and we had lots of fun and laughter along the way. We thank all our parents for all their support during the year, it is very much appreciated. We hope you all have a happy and safe summer and wish you all the best in your new class next year.

Class 2 Update - May 2019

We have had lots of fun this month learning about mini-beasts. We have explored different types of mini-beasts in our sensory tray, read the story of ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ and ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ and enjoyed participating in cookery, messy play, art and maths activities based on these books. Our ‘Disney Big Fun Week’ was the high-light of our month, especially our trip to the fun house and making our very own teddy bears.

Class 2 Update - March 2019

We have had great fun in March exploring the colour green & making some colourful St. Patrick’s Day crafts. Our drumming workshops have been great fun and we have now started a dance class which we are really enjoying. World Book Day was lots of fun and we all thought it a bit strange that Claire was green for the day. We have welcomed a new pupil to our class and are also saying a sad farewell to Miss. Campbell who is retiring. We wish her well in her retirement and we will miss her lots.

Class 2 Update - February 2019

Class 2 have had a really busy month. We had a café running in our role play area and the boys loved cooking up bacon and eggs for the staff. For our break one of the mornings we had bacon egg and toast in our own “class café”.

Then we celebrated Chinese New Year and just loved trying on traditional clothes from China and we tasted and explored Chinese and Asian inspired food.

Valentines cards were made and sent home along with some surprises. We loved getting messy making the cards.

Then our role play area changed to the hairdressers and we all had a restyle at class2 hairdressers. Some got a gelled up style and some a wash and blow-dry. The boys had such fun at “the hairdressers”

Class 2 Update - January 2019

It was great to see the boys back after Christmas, all looking well rested and ready for 2019. In our communication group, we loved hearing what everyone got for Christmas from our Christmas Holiday news sheets. There was no rest for class 2! We were back on schedule and ready to start some hard work with lots of fun along the way. This term we are going to be concentrating on our independence skills - both in school and at home. We have made a great start at these skills and Well Done mums and dads for supporting this!
